Data Centre Campus Harlow, UK
Building on its tradition of innovation and new technology, development on the Harlow Enterprise Zone Site includes the creation of a Data Centre Campus, consisting of 32000 sq m of gross space divided across 4 freestanding buildings. The project aims to deliver flexibility to respond to client and market requirements and will offer independent and world class data capacity for local, national and international companies.
Benefiting from highly resilient power and diverse communications, it lives up to its history as the birthplace of fibre optics. At the heart of the UKs life sciences industry, but still with low latency to the city of London, this project has the scale and location to meet Data Centre requirements of the 21st century.
The approach to the appearance of the Data Centres has been to emphasis the modulations and regular geometries in order to break up the large bulk and mass of the structure. This is achieved with a contemporary, clean and uncomplicated design.
Ensuring maximum security and regulating optimum conditions for the Data Centre operations is a fundamental parameter of the design throw-out. The basic arrangement is for a 3 storey support block which forms the primary façade. Behind the support block the high secure areas are contained in main bulk of the facility, critical infrastructure at ground level with 2 levels of critical IT white space above. Exterior gantries either side support critical cooling. The generators positioned at the rear of the main block to avoid cross contamination of hot and cool air flows or exhaust fumes.
